Overview
Founded in 1907 as Guangci Hospital, Ruijin Hospital is a prestigious Grade 3A comprehensive hospital with 6 academicians. World-renowned for the 'Shanghai Protocol' for leukemia treatment and pioneering burn treatment techniques.
History
In the 1950s, Ruijin Hospital gained international fame for successfully treating steelworker Qiu Caikang with 89.3% severe burn area, breaking the international consensus that 'burns exceeding 80% total area cannot be cured.' The 'Ruijin Formula' for burn fluid resuscitation remains a classic standard used globally. In the 1990s, major breakthroughs were achieved in leukemia treatment. The 'Shanghai Protocol' for acute promyelocytic leukemia using all-trans retinoic acid combined with arsenic trioxide has become an internationally recognized standard treatment, transforming this disease from highly fatal (5-year survival rate of only 10%) to curable (cure rate over 95%).
